Composition Baby From Ireland

Name: 1920s-1930s Composition Baby Made in Ireland

Made by and When: Unknown, 1920s-1930s

Material: Composition

Marks: Unmarked

Height: 17 inches

Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Black Astrakhan wig, replaced brown glass eyes and black eyelashes, painted red-lips with a hint of painted teeth; has pierced ears

Clothes: Redressed in a modern baby doll romper; because of the pierced ears, an African tribal outfit might have been the doll’s original clothing.

Other: This doll traveled to the US from Wicklow, Ireland, and was possibly made there by an unknown manufacturer. It is possible the doll was made in England as it arrived wearing a too-small dress tagged Faerie Glen Made in England.

According to fellow doll enthusiast Jacqueline Fulmer, “For that set of years, the main doll manufacturer in Ireland was Crolly Dolls. While they usually have raised lettering between the shoulder blades that says ‘Crolly Dolls,’ the company did sometimes buy doll parts from other companies.”
