Name: Cabbage-Patch-Type Soft-Sculptured Doll
Made by and When: Unknown Independent Artist, ca. 1985
Material: Brown polyester-fiberfill-stuffed fabric with sculpted ears and navel, and yarn for the hair
Marks: Unmarked
Height: 20 inches
Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Black yarn hair styled in two side pigtails with bangs, brown painted eyes, closed stitched mouth with a dimpled chin
Clothes: Pink polka dot dress with white eyelet collar, matching panties, white lace-trimmed ankle socks, black patent-leather shoes
Other: At the height of the early 1980s Cabbage Patch Kids doll-buying frenzy, sewing pattern companies produced and sold patterns for soft-sculptured versions of the original Little People/Cabbage Patch Kids (CPK) doll. Handmade CPK-type dolls were often substitutes for the original dolls when parents could not find an original, or when the price of an original was cost prohibitive. Because no two are alike, in today’s market, the handmade versions, like the one in this auction, are often considered more endearing to adult collectors than they were to the children who originally owned them.
