Name:  Craft Doll or Crocheted Bed Doll

Made by and When:  Darice, circa 1980s-1990s

Material:  Vinyl, plastic

Marks: (Head) China (Upper Back) Made in China

Height: 13-1/2 inches

Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Short on the top black rooted curly hair with two long ponytails on the sides (now tucked under to create a bubble cut; brown sleep eyes, closed mouth with painted red lips

Clothes/Accessories: Wears a custom-made Victorian-style crocheted green dress embellished with a red gemstone underneath the ruffled collar and pearl buttons in the back; the burgundy cape has rows of white, green, and burgundy ruffles. The green hat has green and burgundy ruffles. Wears original white nylon panties and socks, and white vinyl shoes. Handmade accessories include pearl earrings, a green ring made from a quilting pin, and round oval acrylic eyeglasses.

Other: Craft dolls are typically inexpensive dolls sold in plastic baggies only wearing nylon panties, socks, and shoes designed to customize as desired. This doll was customized as a crocheted bed doll, donated to the museum by Carla Waldbaum. The note of provenance reads:

Custom handmade baby doll lovingly made by Mrs. Dorene Casey for her granddaughter, Ms. Monica Casey. Lincoln, Nebraska, circa 1995.
