Name: Free Moving Cara

Made by and When: Mattel, 1974 (was probably on the market in 1975)

Material: Vinyl with articulated waist and a “Free Mover” lever on the back

Height: 11-1/2 inches

Hair/Eyes/Mouth: Black rooted hair with a middle part and orange ribbons holding strands of hair on both sides of the face/brown painted eyes/slightly parted lips

Clothes: One-piece white tennis fashion has orange knit mid-section, white tennis shoes, and an extra maxi-length orange floral skirt; accessories include a gray tennis racket, tennis ball, and a gray golf club. The tennis racket and golf club have strap(s) and snap(s) to create a wrist handle for the doll.

Other: Style No. 7283, Free Moving Cara uses the Steffie head sculpt. The doll was released with Free Moving Curtis, Free Moving Ken, Free Moving Barbie, and Free Moving PJ. With the twist and turn waist, the Free Mover mechanism, and the bendable knees, Free Moving Cara can be positioned several ways, as illustrated on the front of this doll’s distressed box.
