Stockinette Doll

Name: Stockinette Doll

Made by and When: Unbranded, circa 1980s

Material: Stockinette (cloth) over a molded face, preformed body, arms, and legs; synthetic wig, and paint, cotton voile, French batiste cotton

Marks: None

Height:  17 inches

Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Black handmade synthetic wig styled in two lower braids twisted into buns with each bun adorned with a white resin rose; brown-painted eyes and black-painted upper eyelashes, rose lip color

Clothes: Pale pink voile dress with a blouson drop waist that has delicate lace trim at the neck, sleeves, and at the hemline; ecru batiste cotton half-slip and one-piece undergarment, and black faux suede boots

Other: Using a pattern, this circa-1980s doll was possibly made by an independent doll artist to represent an early 20th-century young girl. Akin to the Martha Chase stockinette doll technique, the firm sculpted head is covered in brown stockinette. The preformed body, arms, and legs are similarly covered.
