Name: Baby Ellen
Made by and When: Madame Alexander, 1966 and 1971
Material: Soft vinyl
Marks: (Heads) ALEXANDER / 19©62; (Lower backs) 14F
Height: 13 inches
Hair, Eyes, Mouth: The 1966 doll has short-brown curly rooted hair. The 1971 doll has dark brown-straight rooted hair. Both have brown puffy sleep eyes with attached upper eyelashes, painted-on lower eyelashes, and drinker mouths. The 1966 doll has red-orange lip color. The doll from 1971 has pink lips. Both have chubby rosy cheeks.
Clothes: Baby Ellen from 1966 wears a pink dress with an attached half slip with snap closure; white lace trims the neck, bodice, sleeves, and hemline of the dress. A cotton diaper and possibly replaced white shoes complete this doll’s attire. The 1971 Baby Ellen wears a white-lace-trimmed blue and white gingham dress with matching pantalettes. The white baby shoes replace the original shoes. Other versions wore pink and white gingham dresses. Not shown, both dolls came with a white baby bottle.
Other: Baby Ellen is the counterpart of Madame Alexander’s Sweet Tears (white) doll. A drink-and-wet doll, Baby Ellen is designed to drink water from a doll bottle. The water drains from the mouth through a hole in the center of the legs. The 1971 doll is style #3615.
