Name: Claudia
Made by and When: Gőtz for FAO Schwarz, 2010
Material: String-jointed vinyl with a slightly bent left knee, acrylic eyes, paint, synthetic hair
Marks: (Head) Gőtz (within a circle) / 576-20
Height: 18 inches
Hair, Eyes, Mouth: The brown rooted hair was originally styled in two side pigtails with two red ribbons accenting both; it is now worn in a pageboy. Claudia has light-brown inset eyes with applied upper eyelashes and painted lower eyelashes, and a closed mouth with mauve lip color.
Clothes/Accessories: Claudia wears a schoolgirl uniform and carries a red plaid backpack that matches the pleated skirt. The skirt is paired with a white, short-sleeved top and a blue cardigan sweater featuring an FAO patch on the upper left front. White panties, white socks, and black leatherette shoes with double straps complete the outfit. Claudia was presented in a personalized red canvas carrying case with a see-through front panel. A soccer fashion that includes black kneepads and black sneakers, and a pair of silver-rimmed round eyeglasses are attached to the back panel of the carrying case.
Other: Said to be a reiteration of Gőtz’s Hannah line sold in Europe, Claudia is a 2010 Gőtz FAO Schwarz-exclusive sold through the Toys R Us FAO Schwarz Department. Usually referred to as “Hispanic,” Claudia’s medium-brown complexion is compatible with other ethnicities (African American included), which gives the owner the ability to assign Claudia’s ethnicity. As illustrated here, African American, Asian, and Caucasian dolls were also sold in the FAO Schwarz Department of Toys R Us.
