Lil’ Liza Jane

Name: Lil’ Liza Jane

Made by and When: Unknown artist, circa 1980s

Material: Bisque head, jointed composition body, acrylic eyes, synthetic hair

Marks: The nape of the neck is marked J. M.

Height:  16 inches

Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Black handmade wig accented with tiny red ribbons, inset side-glancing black eyes with applied upper eyelashes and painted lower eyelashes, has a broad/flat nose, painted-red full lips on a closed mouth, and chubby cheeks

Clothes: Red and white floral dress has a white eyelet collar and trim at the hemline, white pantaloons, white over-the-knee socks, and black faux leather shoes; wears gold-tone stud earrings.

Other: Lil’ Liza Jane’s artist is unknown. This character doll is most likely a one-of-a-kind piece, made from a head mold that the artist sculpted, or made from a manufactured head mold that the artist purchased, painted, and fired. The porcelain head is on a multiarticulated antique-style composition body. It is known that Lil’ Liza Jane was part of an avid collector’s collection before the collector’s demise. Lil’ Liza Jane and other dolls owned by the former collector were sold on an online site in 2016. At the link below the gallery photos, read how Lil’ Liza Jane “found” the curator of this museum.
