DeeBeeGee’s Virtual Black Doll Museum is an online platform and digital museum that showcases a collection of Black dolls. It is dedicated to preserving the history, culture, and artistry of Black dolls, highlighting the importance of representation in the toy industry. The museum features various dolls, including vintage, contemporary, and hand-crafted pieces, and explores the role these dolls have played in shaping identity, culture, and historical narratives for Black communities. The virtual museum serves as an educational resource and space for appreciation, fostering a deeper understanding of the significance of Black dolls in art and history. Today, the museum celebrates its 4th anniversary!
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, on January 17, 2021, DeeBeeGee’s Virtual Black Doll Museum was founded. At that time, brick-and-mortar museums and other arts, education, and entertainment facilities were closed to the public. DeeBeeGee’s Virtual Black Doll Museum’s founder recognized the need for a virtual site, accessible 24/7, to celebrate the cultural and historical significance of antique, vintage, modern, and one-of-a-kind Black dolls. Thus, the museum was founded.
While 99.9 percent of the installed dolls are from the personal collection of the founder, during the past four years, several subscribers and many patrons have donated dolls, doll photographs, and monetary gifts. The goal of the museum is to continue Monday, Wednesday, and Friday installations to install at least 1000 Black dolls in the combined categories of antique, vintage, modern, and one-of-a-kind dolls. As of today, over 700 curated doll installations have been published!
