Made by and When: Starkey’s Daughter Cloth Dolls (Rachel McCullough Sherrod), 2014

Material: Pressed felt, cloth, synthetic wig fibers, glue, paint

Marks:  Has a hang tag with the artist’s attached business card.

Height: 17 inches

Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Short black natural-textured hair with a fabric headband, painted brown eyes, closed painted mouth

Clothes: Wears a black and gold African print dress, blue and black cloth headband and panties that match the headband, faux leather bronze sandals embellished with silver studs, gold-tone earrings and bangle bracelets; has a wooden doll stand.

Other: This 17-inch mask face felt doll by Rachel McCullough Sherrod of Starkey’s Daughter Cloth Dolls is a one-of-a-kind doll. A counterpart, fraternal twin, named Rhodesia was made at the same time. Rhodesia, seen in a gallery photo with Makeba, is part of the collection of Debra Richardson. Note: The 2014 price is shown on Makeba’s hang tag. Current prices differ.
