Name: OOAK Carved Wooden Doll “Savannah”
Made by and When: Kor January, 1993
Material: Wood, hair fibers, cloth, metal rings and screws
Marks: The artist’s initials are carved on the doll’s back.
Height: 18 inches
Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Brown/black natural-textured hair is rooted into the head and worn loose except for one braid on each side of the face; black eyes with brown specks, closed mouth; has a beauty mark on the left cheek.
Clothes: Purple print dress with lace-trimmed underskirt
Other: This one-of-a-kind carved wooden doll was given the name “Savannah” by its owner. The carved limbs are attached with metal rings and screws. Savannah’s companion cloth doll was made by African American artist, Tiffaney Tensley.
Purchased directly from the artist, “Savannah” appears to be the same doll featured on page 397 in Black Dolls Book II an Identification and Value Guide by Myla Perkins (Collector Books, 1995). The doll pictured in Perkins’ book was submitted to the author by the artist, Kor January before the doll was sold.
