Name: Islander Girl

Made by and When: SAMCO, c. 1950s-1960s

Material: Hard plastic

Marks:  Upper back: T-shirt symbol / SAMCO / Italy

Height: 13 inches

Hair, Eyes, Mouth: Black mohair wig adorned with red velour flowers on the side, blue flirty sleep eyes with applied long and feathered upper eyelashes, closed smiling mouth with red lip color; has painted red nostrils and red dots accent the inner corners of the eyes.

Clothes: Wears a multicolored striped midriff collared blouse, wrap skirt, and shorts of matching fabric with replaced red sandals. A multicolored bead necklace and sewn-on hoop earrings are accessories.

Other: Made in Italy by SAMCO, this doll possibly represents a brown-skinned islander. SAMCO also made a 17-inch version of this doll. Their islander dolls were costumed similarly in brightly colored fashions with factory-painted fingernails and toenails. The brown complexions varied. Some had brown eyes. This doll has a grill in the back for the nonworking voice box/crier that is within the body.
